Taking a quick break from my Rome posts to update on what has been going on in life. It will mainly be a photo dump of what I have been doing.
My suburb has a weekend carnival with local vendors and eats that is my favorite weekend of the summer. I live for this weekend and all the fun kid events, local eats, parade, fireworks, and just enjoying myself without stressing if a kid acts up Dan can easily take them home since we live less than 10 min away from the event. It is like a mini state fair.
At this event you buy a “button” for $5 and it includes all these free kids events. This was like build a bear but build your own stuff animal. It is a different animal each year and this year it was a raccoon. The kids loved doing this event! My oldest aged out of doing the kids events so he was at the carnival part with his friends. Build your ice cream lego event. It is amazing how they get local businesses to sponsor each event so kids can really enjoy it. Fun carnival ridesLove that it was just the 2 of themAfter the band, they had amazing fireworks My setup for the parade on Sunday. I went there at 7am to get good seats for 11am parade.
Speaking of state fair, I went to the MN State Fair and it was amazing! I went once with some friends to watch the TLC and Shaggy show, once with my middle son for a mommy and him day, and once with my oldest and family that was visiting from out of town. I was very apprehensive going with the Delta variant and how scary it is sounding but I did just get my results and my kids results and we all tested negative from Covid.
It is a relief and in retrospect I am happy I went, especially with my 5 year old. We went on a Friday when it was drizzling and got there at 830am. The fair was surprisingly empty and we had no lines for any food or ride. He called it the best day and now wants to make it a yearly tradition. I sometimes worry taking him out to places since he is 5 years old and panic at thinking he will be a handful but it was one of those perfect days. He was dressed in all his rain gear, no stroller or wagon for the first time and was just so pleasant to be around. He appreciated it so much and wasted none of the food! He ate and drank everything he asked for and my favorite was seeing his smile petting the cows and lambs at the birth center.
Bacon on a stickThis was a delicious fish tacoWhite wine flightThe “naughty biscuit” it had pull pork in it but it wasn’t that good Cotton Candy Champagne drink from the SpeakeasyOur seats! I am so happy I dressed him appropriately. He was warm and dry all day and I think that helped in how happy he was throughout the day.
