Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was amazing this year! I celebrate both Mexican Mother’s Day (May 10 every year) and normal Mother’s Day here in the US.

I was very spoiled by my family and friends this year and just left extremely happy

Here are some of the gifts I got….

First the ones I bought for myself LOLOLOL. Sephora had their twice a year 20% off sale in April so I bought a lot of stuff I have been wanting and some restocks

I have tried almost everything I have bought and loved it all so far

I still need to try this Milk Primer but I am almost out of my normal primer and hope it lives up to the hype

My son, Logan, picked this beautiful New York Yankees sweater for me and I absolutely love it! I love love love the Yankees since I was a little girl and the Yankees and Chicago White Sox have my heart in sports forever. Baseball in general is my very favorite sport so any gift baseball related I will always love

I am still in shock Dan got me these cute heels. I don’t normally wear heels because I have this unexplained fear that I need to wear shoes I can run in but for special date nights I will definitely wear them out. I already wore them once and Dan complimented me the whole night. They are surprisingly comfortable and I like them a lot too

My friend and Dan got me some makeup from a favorite brand, Dior

Love this lip tint my friend sent me. It is so pretty and has become a favorite to wear

Dan’s goodies he got me

I am obsessed with Dior’s lip balm and so happy he got me this cute set and on top of that he also got me this cute light pink case to use with all my lip balms

My beautiful flowers my boys bought for me

Logan’s class made these cute plants for all the moms

My mother in law got me my favorite chocolates and a gift card

My friends sent me the cutest gifts and I can’t wait to use them all! I especially am excited for the AOU lip balm and Doraemon piggy bank, so stinking cute

My oldest, Dylan got me my favorite summer flats and this cute light up mirror

Loved the kids cards this year! I especially loved the poem my oldest wrote to me and their cards perfectly summarize them

My oldest-wrote a beautiful poem because he knows my deep love for poetry and drew me a beautiful picture

My middle-always straight to the point like me and made me the perfect circle smiley face

My youngest-his class card was just so cute and love the cute clip picture holder of him

Logan (my middle) always is so thoughtful with his gifts and every year gets me a pair of pajamas and I am shocked he found the Baltimore Orioles hat I have been wanting for years (I know Dan helped him but it is still thoughtful) I love the show Seinfeld and was watching the episode where Elaine gets kicked out from the Yankees game because she is wearing this exact Orioles style hat while sitting in the Yankees owner area and I briefly said it in passing that I really wanted that hat for a long time but have been lazy to actually look for it (the Orioles changed their logo a couple of years ago) but low and behold they found it for me! Love my new hat and while I am not a big Orioles fan I do find myself cheering for them when I see them playing now

In college I was obsessed with the brand Gola for shoes. I wore them religiously but with time and just having different tastes I lean more towards Vans and Supergas now but I was telling Dan about how much I loved them when I found some old school pictures and he must have seen the nostalgia in my face because he got me a new pair!!! I love these because while pink is my favorite color, I have tons of pink and gold shoes but no other plain colors so these navy shoes are perfect to add to my shoe collection! I can’t wait to break them in and hopefully take them to Europe with me this summer

One of my friends sent me this and I just screamed of cuteness! love my new headbands for when I do my face masks and makeup of Tata and Shooky and on top of that a new hand fan in a pretty color, lavender. So cute and obsessed!

One of my best friends recently bought this for herself and sent me one and it has been so handy. It is another handheld fan but this fan clip to your shorts or pants and blows air up to cool off your back or front underneath your shirt!!! So smart and handy and can’t wait to use during the hot days coming up. If you can’t tell I love little gadgets and my close friends all know these are my favorite type of gifts.

On Mexican Mother’s Day, which was on a Friday, Dan took me and Scott out to my favorite crepe place in St Paul.

We then went on a walk (my very favorite thing to do always)

Waking up on Mother’s Day slightly hungover from Saturday Night but with a yummy coffee ready from Dan

A late Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday

We got my favorite pizza and wings that night and it was the end of a perfect Mother’s Day weekend. It was definitely a fun weekend and now gearing up to think of cute things and gifts to get Dan for Father’s Day

Rome 2024 Part 4

My final part from our Rome trip

We scheduled another day trip to Leaning Tower of Pisa and Florence on our second to last day

First stop is always a gas station, toilet, and cafe break

On our way to Pisa our van started to have technical problems! The engine was fine but the computer and tech inside was acting like a hot mess. This tour was a small group of a total of 6 people. 4 was us and 2 were another couple from a suburb of Chicago on their honeymoon. We had to wait 2 hours for another vehicle but we all took it in stride. There is really nothing you can do when it comes to car trouble and really when anything goes awry and I am happy the kids didn’t mind it at all. The tour company bought us snacks and drinks as we waited and it was really nice.

We were suppose to go to Pisa first but with the delay we went to Florence first and we stopped for lunch. I had been dreaming of this steak that is famous in Florence since the last time we were here and it did not disappoint!!!

Cute family picture

Legit heaven!!!!! We got it done Rare because the pan stays hot for 45 minutes and it cooks the meat fast. I love this steak so much and was happy to share its deliciousness with my kids (Dan doesn’t eat red meat often but he did have some when the steak cooked to well done.)

Of course the kids got their clam spaghetti pasta

Dan got a salad and Cacio e Pepe pasta

This was a heavy lunch but ugh so good. We finished the whole meal!

Had the kids all eat the meat off the bone too

Of course gelato after

We then met up with our guide, Giovanni, for the Florence tour part.

He took us here, Carlo Lorenzini, better known by the pen name Carlo Collodi, creator of Pinocchio lived here and there is a plaque on the building telling us that

Again, love all the random art. I find it smart to decorate the business door with the business info and add some art work to it

He then led us to the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze. Both kids wanted to see the David and their faces once seeing it was everything! Wish I would have captured it but I was too busy smiling and looking at them lol

Hello Michelangelo

These are unfinished works from Michelangelo and they are called, The Prisoners, so smart and clever to be called that because they do look like they want to break out

The David never disappoints. This biblical story is my oldest Dylan’s favorite Bible story! He was especially in awe and loved seeing it. Him and Logan kept going on and on about the details and how realistic it looked. Our guide Giovanni, told us that Michelangelo used to dissect bodies which was revolutionary because it wasn’t allowed but that is how he was one of the few to get his sculptures to look so real like Da Vinci.

Again, love the low crowds!

Walking around and listening to the history of Florence

My babies

This was where the David original stood until it got moved inside the museum. So nice they put up a replica to get an idea of how it looked in the square

This Fountain of Neptune intrigued Logan but he was sad it wasn’t on

The Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge in Florence that survived the bombings in Florence during WWII

Made it to Pisa

We got 30 min after our tour to explore and take as many pictures as we wanted

We of course took tons, but here are a couple

One final look

Got a really late dinner but it tasted amazing after our long day

On our last day, me and Dan, left it open so the kids could do whatever they wanted.

Logan picked the Colosseum and Dylan just wanted to walk around and shop.

Walking towards the Colosseum the kids wanted to stop for a snack

Soaking in the Colosseum.

Tickets were really easy to get last minute through their official site

Walking around

Of course a gelato break

This place is very touristy but the kids really wanted to go to it after hearing multiple people tell us about the place with 150 flavors! The loved sampling so many flavors

We let the kids pick what stores we went into and where to eat.

Stopped by the hotel for a break and found this complimentary Prosecco waiting for us inside our room and we immediately enjoyed it

After a rest we went back out for dinner. The kids wanted to eat by the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain area so Dylan picked this place. It was good for our last meal because of all the people watching

Saying good bye to our favorites

Trevi Fountain

Another gelato break lol

Spanish Steps

Pantheon

Piazza Navona

The next day we got to the airport. Once there got settled in and found out our plane was delayed! It normally would be ok but our layover was only for 50 min to catch our plane home. I was panicking the whole time.

By the grace of God we made it!!! Lufthansa was AMAZINGGGG and waited for us and other people that were on our flight. They were so kind to wait the extra 30 minutes and I will never not be thankful for it. I already emailed them and let them know how amazing they are because omg thank you Lufthansa for waiting.

I had never been on Lufthansa but I can’t express how much I love foreign airlines compared to our American ones like Delta and United. I hate hate hate the food on Delta and United which is wild because I used to love their food and in general I am never a picky eater, I even love hospital food but ugh the food has gone drastically downhill. Anyway, Lufthansa’s food was so so so good!

I almost cried when I saw they gave out real silverware for economy class. In reality, I can be quite frugal when it comes to airlines tickets in the sense that business or first class sound really nice with the extra legroom and better food, but I don’t drink and when flying internationally they give out beer and wine to economy so I don’t see a point in spending more when I can fall asleep anywhere and never care for the extra leg room since I tend to just sit still and never move my seat back. Dan typically takes over my seat which in rare form I don’t mind because I tend to panic and need the touch to settle down again. The kids though said they would love to sit in the “better seats” and they promised they would take us somewhere and buy us the nice seats one day lolol

The food was so good, I got the pasta, Dan got the chicken, both kids got the chicken and they also really liked it.

To say we had an amazing time is an understatement! This trip was one of the best I have taken and it was so nice to show the kids one of our favorite cities. Of course the kids fought with each other and tears were shed because one was being extra mean or they both wanted my attention and being mean to each other because of that but overall those fights were just small blips in the grand scheme of the trip. The only major delay we had was on our Florence day trip but really the kids were happy so we were happy. We have great memories to last us a lifetime and the kids are already planning our next overseas trip. They both did great on the plane ride back and said they could handle a longer flight if we wanted to go somewhere further lololol

Rome 2024 Part 3

On this day we went to the Villa Borghese. We love this park and were super excited to take the kids. It was rainy on/off all day and to be honest I love this type of weather because it means even less crowds.

After walking to the park we stopped at a cafe for some drinks

Me and Dan have fond memories of renting a bike in this park and couldn’t wait to rent one with the kids. We rented it for an hour and drove around as much as we could before we had to go to the museum.

I have a lot of love for all art museums but this one, The Galleria Borghese, is Dan’s favorite out of all of them. This is also the one that sells out and is hard to get tickets if you wait until the last minute so I set my calendar and an alarm when tickets went on sale.

So many beautiful sculptures

I am always impressed for being a smaller museum all the unique artwork it holds

We took a train ride throughout the park

After the park we went inside the Pantheon. It used to be free to go but now you pay 5 Euros

Gelato always

We walked around and of course landed back at the Turtle Fountain

Dinner

I created a monster and Logan ordered the clam pasta everywhere we went to eat for dinner lol

Love the after drinks the provide everywhere in Rome

The line was finally short so we got Tiramisu from one of our favorite spots

The kids really liked it

After we got the kids settled for the night me and Dan went for a walk

Hello, dear Colosseum

The Triton Fountain is my very favorite fountain in all of Rome. We always make sure to visit it on all of our trips to Rome. I can’t exactly place or explain why it is my favorite but there is something majestic about it for me

We even stopped for a drink to enjoy the view some more

A stop at the Trevi Fountain is always a must on a late night walk

Love how empty the Pantheon was at night compared to when we were just there in the afternoon

The next day we signed up the kids to Gladiator School

They learned a lot about gladiators and then did some gladiator training.

After the training they had a tournament to earn their “freedom”

There were only 2 other families with us and they did a good job with the tournament

Everyone earned their freedom and Logan’s Roman name became Invictus and Dylan’s was Spartacus

I didn’t think they would like it as much as they did but it was definitely a highlight for both kids

We then walked to get lunch. The past nights this place had a long line and Dylan suggested we go for lunch. Very smart thinking from him because there was no line and we got seated right away

Everything was delicious!

And then of course more gelato for dessert lololol

At night we had a family food tour planned

So many delicious eats

This fried fish with their white wine was my favorite

As we know I love graffiti art

This was the boys favorite spot, 2 delicious pastas

Our tour ended with yummy gelato

Walking back to the hotel we spotted more graffiti

Loved how the store doors were decorated. Not sure if the owners approved but I enjoyed seeing how unique and creative they all were

Rome 2024 Part 2

This day starts off when we go on a day trip to Pompeii and Positano. I have been to Pompeii in 2014 and it was amazing but since then they have discovered more artifacts and I was really excited to go again.

I love these first stops at a gas station/cafe/market.

Walking into Pompeii, beautiful day and couldn’t believe how empty it was!

See! No one around

Even when we did run into people it wasn’t very many

Logan loved walking the streets

He sat down in an old take away restaurant

Hi, from us!

The bath house had some top notch drainage and original piping

The brothel house and one of the beds

Lots of original artwork still in great condition and all people had to do was pick what they wanted

Lots of interesting signage to let travelers and people know where the brothel house was located

Mount Vesuvius in the backround

My favorite umbrella for rain or shine

Lunch break before Positano

Making our way to Positano

I love this family picture

Dan and I always being cheesy lol

We found a great candy store that had these delicious lemon sorbets

It started to lightly drizzle so we found shelter under this greenery

Lunch the next day

Heading to the Vatican

We had some time before our allotted time slot so of course we stopped for some gelato

Inside and waiting for our tour to start

Our third time here and love this Pinecone garden

Ceiling art everywhere!

Again, so empty! I love traveling during March now because low crowds and great weather!

Their Modern Art Collection is really good and so happy I was able to see it all on my own pace after the guide left us.

This rare Van Gogh showing a religious subject, the Pieta, was so nice to see in person

The Thinker and Rodin never disappoint

And of course all my Matisse that I go just bananas for

Again, loved all the modern art that led to the Sistine Chapel

It is always a delight to the Sistine Chapel but alas pictures are still not allowed and even though I saw a lot of people taking pictures and breaking the rules I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

They only have one rule and it seems crazy that people just can’t abide to it

Logan loved mailing post card to all of his friends and was even more excited to send one from Vatican City

Love spiral staircases

Waiting to go to the Basilica and it went pretty fast, I think we waited 15/20 min

What a beauty! Michangelo was I think 23 years old and man I sometimes think what am I doing with my life when people create such greatness so young

Swiss guards are always cool to see and we watched the changing of the guard too

I am obsessed with this melon and Prosciutto appetizer. I have made it a constant in our household since coming back

I mainly ate steak every time we went out to dinner, I shared with the kids and would have some of their pasta

Nightly walks with the family always have us at the Trevi Fountain

Throwing another coin in

I just love the Spanish Steps! Right next to them has the Keats and Shelley museum and I love that museum so much! Sadly, we never made it to see it open but that just means another trip will be planned so I can go in again and go gaga over everything poetry

Never one to say no to a cute cheesy photo

Love nightly pictures when it is super empty

Rome 2024 Part 1

I recently went to Italy with my family and it was AMAZING!!!! We obviously had some ups and downs but overall the trip in our (mine and Dan’s) opinion was magical with so many great memories. We are already planning next year’s trip and I just love being able to share my love of traveling with my boys.

I brought my polaroid and my brother got Logan this cute black and white printer camera and we took lots of pictures.

Waiting for our flight to Munich, for some reason there was no direct flight to Rome from Chicago so we had to have a layover in Munich (only 50 minutes in between flights, I wanted to kill Dan)

Logan working on his sticker by number piece

I was really worried for Logan (8 years old) flying because he gets motion sickness, but he only started to feel sick at the last hour so it was very manageable.

As soon as our plane landed we made a run to reach our connecting flight. We had to go through passport control and take a shuttle to our gate but thank goodness we made it!

Our hotel was right by the Piazza Navona, we picked it for its location and knowing that me and Dan would like to have a drink after we put Logan down and have Dylan watch him while we are right downstairs. This hotel location was perfect for us!

Our first meal and had the kids falling in love with my Spaghetti and clams meal I always get when in Italy.

Steak was so good and simple

My heart!

Pantheon was a quick walk so we stopped by to try to avoid jet lag

Took the boys to one of my favorite dessert places and ordered them a Grannita, it was so good and my oldest got one every day!

Trevi fountain is right by the Pantheon so had the boys toss their coin and make a wish to come back

So pretty!

Stopped by a random church

Getting ready for bed to sleep away the jet lag at night

Breakfast was brought to our room daily

It was pretty tasty but the coffee was just awful lolol I never would have thought Italy would have bad coffee but this hotel did

Dan and I have a fondness for this turtle fountain since 2014. We always visit it and shared why we love it with the kids

We walked to see the Mouth of Truth. Logan has been dying to see this since he was a toddler and he was so excited to see it in person

Dylan went first

Then Logan went and he was so cute

Me and Dan

In the same church they have St. Valentine’s skull, odd but also pretty neat

I love random art and this was spotted everywhere in Rome

Making our way to the Colosseum

We had time before our time slot to go in so we got a quick lunch

Made our way in and the kids were in awe

It is always a beautiful site to see

My babies

Walking around the Roman Forum

Gelato stop

Boys wanted to see the Colosseum at night

The following day Dan and Dylan had a bike tour scheduled and me and Logan had a Street Food Tour

Again this Turtle Fountain has made yet another appearance lolol, we are always around it no matter what

We ran into Dan and Dylan when me and Logan were waiting for our food tour at the Campo de’ Fiori

Our first food stop

All of these meats were so good and the wine was delicious

Second stop my favorite type of pizza, Roman pizza, this was my favorite and so simple, just red sauce and dough

Third stop had us eating arancini, so good

Dan and Dylan’s cute picture in front of the Colosseum

Me and Logan’s 4th stop

I dream of these fried artichokes from the Jewish Quarter all the time. They are my very favorite and imagine my surprise and delight when Logan also loved them and ate 3 of them!!!

Our final stop was of course gelato

Our walk back

We met up with Dylan and Dan and at night we went to Castel Sant’Angelo,, we happened to be there the first Sunday of the month so it was free entry! The line was long but we only waited 30/45 min

I love this view from the top

Dinner had us eating at a sit down inside since it started to rain on/off. This Walter White painting on the top left had me cracking up

Desserts were so good

January and February 2024

These past months have just whizzed by! Weather has really thrown me off and while it has been really nice to not have snow I do miss the cold.

This is what I have been up to……

My French friend, Morgane, threw a Raclette party and it was AMAZING!!! My friends in college used to throw raclette parties all the time and I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I smelled the delicious cheese.

Love all the delicious food and spread

First round of many

With my friend Sunny, love her! She is so wholesome and sweet ❤

Morgane then made us fresh crepes and OMG they were AMAZING!!! Like as soon as I took a bite the delicious butter and sugar just melted in my mouth and it tasted like heaven. OBSESSED!!!! I got the recipe from her but per usual they didn’t taste quite like hers but ugh so good nonetheless

So good, I had 4 of them AHHHHHH

Met up with my friends at the local Ski lodge by us

Of course had to enjoy a Bloody Mary

With my friends Becca and Gloria! I always have the most fun doing anything with them

At night we met up with our other friend Jen to play purse bingo. Sadly, none of us won but that’s ok it was still fun

Love how stores and everyone got into the holiday Lunar New Year. Even my favorite skincare line had gifts to give out and with a cute bag that the kids already stole to put legos in it lol

Hello my true love Shake Shack

My friends from Chicago came to Minnesota for a taekwondo competition and it was so nice hanging out with them for the couple of days that they were here. I met them up at Mall of America and then the following day had dinner with them.

With my friends! I am still always in shock how I have know them for so long and it always feels like no time has passed when I meet them up after months of not seeing them. I text my girlfriends almost everyday so we don’t really miss anything or need to catch up and when we do meet up we just comment how big our kids have gotten and watch them all play together. For dinner though we left our kids since it was a late dinner.

We love Twinsfest which is like a kickoff to baseball season. Logan always asks to sign up to their clinic they have in the morning and this year he did it again with one of his besties. They had a blast and I love seeing Logan so happy.

After the clinic was over we took Logan to the baseball stadium to walk around and enjoy the festivities that they offer to get us pumped for baseball.

Logan got this free hat from the baseball clinic in the morning and he insisted on wearing it all day.

If you look closely me, Dan, and Logan are on the screen up there

I didn’t know they were still taking our pictures and Dan per usual making me laugh while walking away

Some delicious barbacoa flautas from our local Mexican restaurant

More pho and Dan got a banh mi sandwich at the new Viet place they opened up by us

I spend a lot of time at the batting cages with Logan but I love it! Whenever he asks to go which is a lot we are always happy to take him and watch him.

Prepping Lunar New Year gifts for some friends

A walk when it was like 42 degrees Fahrenheit which is incredibly warm for Minnesota in our winter months

Celebrating February! I love Valentine’s Day and in general February has always been a favorite month since I was a little girl. It has Valentine’s Day so lots of pink and candy and my favorite brother was born in this month and a cherry on top was one of my sons was born in this month. A glorious month indeed!

One of my best friends Camille moved to Minnesota for a year and sadly she had to leave me now that her year is up. She is visiting Asia for 3 weeks so she had to pack up before her trip and I miss her so much! This was the last dinner we had with her before her big move back.

My friend threw her daughter a Taylor Swift Murder Mystery Party and it was so much fun! Here was some of the decorations.

She ordered in Olive Garden and it was so good! I wish I had parties like this when I was little.

We got glazed donuts and some candy to make friendship bracelet donuts, they came out so good!

Again more Pho, I feel like every winter I just constantly crave Pho so I tend to get it like once a week until Spring hits and then I move on to something else

My friend Jen hosted a Galentine’s Day party and it was cute

Photo shoot fun with my friends Becca, Gloria, and Jen

We got these cute matching pajamas for only $10 at some store in Mall of America

Jeez, more Pho LOLOLOLOLOL Clearly when I become obsessed with something I don’t let go until I get sick of it but that takes awhile

This pho though is pretty decent and since it is located in my suburb I go there a lot

Meeting up friends for a Galentine’s Day dinner

Here I am with a new friend Kelly, she is sweet!

She made such a tasty cocktail

Wine flight at the restaurant

We went to a vineyard that had my friend Gloria’s New Year’s Eve piano player Cole playing so we had to come out to support him

Tried out a new crepe place that opened up in our suburb. It was ok, really cute inside and food was pretty decent. A tad too pricey and my loyalty still lies with Cafe Astoria so I wouldn’t be able to give this place an unbiased opinion

I don’t know why I couldn’t get past how the crepe looked lololol

I have had lots of crepes in my life and I always judge texture and how it looks/taste and this felt very uncrepelike but again my bias is showing. It tasted good and that is what mattered

We got tickets to see the Jason show which I am not going to lie I had no idea who that was but it sounded fun and went with Gloria and Becca

There we are on TV!!!!

We then went to lunch afterwards and it was really good and the place was decorated so cute for Valentine’s Day

At our favorite Thai place in St Paul called Pad Thai the names of restaurants here always have me cracking up

Love this mango and sticky rice dessert way too much

Logan had a party and this was his cake

Dan and I had an igloo dinner in Hudson, WI

Loved it and we hope to go again if not this year definitely next year!

I have no idea why Dan got a burger because he doesn’t even like red meat so of course he didn’t like his meal

But I LOVED my prime rib meal and would love to go back to get it again. He did like his cocktails, appetizer and dessert but knew he ordered wrong and so we both want to go again.

Again at this Viet place in St Paul that clearly has a choke hold on me

I can’t give up on my pho

Took Dan out to one of my favorite breakfast places in St Paul

Valentine’s Day brought lots of kisses, hugs, flowers, love letters, and sweets from my favorite boys in the world

Dan took me and Scott out to breakfast while the other 2 boys were at school

My sweet gifts from my #1 Sweetie

Dinner was so good at night at Holman’s Table

This cocktail was so good and wish it was part of their regular menu

Loved my Sirloin

Dan of course got the chicken

The desserts were so cute!

One of my gifts from my boys! I am so sad I don’t have my original but it was nice to have it in my collection again. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and a rare album that I can listen to it from start to finish without skipping any songs

Scott loving his space puzzle lolol

Celebrating Logan’s birthday just me and him at Benihana

We met up with Gloria and her son Andrew who had his actual birthday on this day and we got delicious milkshakes at the Sugar Factory. I had never been there before but I can see how cute it is and a fun way to celebrate a birthday.

Margarita flight at our Mexican restaurant we frequent and love

Logan spent his birthday at his favorite place, The History Center

He loves this bison and it is his favorite exhibit lol

They have this Charles Schultz exhibit that is the creator of Peanuts going on right now and Logan loved being able to trace the characters

Greetings from Minnesota

We then got lunch at one of his favorite places, Cafe Latte

At night we celebrated and opened gifts

A basketball cake for this celebration at home

Again, at this place!!!! This is why I like posting I didn’t even realized how much I went here but it was a lot!

It is restaurant week and of course we went to my favorite Viet place but instead of ordering off their special menu I stuck with my usual Rib Eye Pho lololol

Finally dyed my grey hair away and feeling young again

Dragged Dan to another concert he had no interest in going but per usual he had a decent time. The only negative was that no alcohol was being served so he had to go next door to get a drink and had to drink it there.

We went to see Mehro at 7th St Entry which is located right next door to 1st Avenue which is a very famous music venue in Minneapolis.

They had some seating and us oldies much appreciated it lolol

Loved how small and intimate is was in the venue

Got to meet Mehro and he was so sweet and love him even more now. We both look terrible but still love that I got a picture with him

He signed my vinyl ❤

More restaurant week eats, this was at Holman’s Table that I also went to for Valentine’s Day

This was at Bullvino’s a Brazilian Steakhouse where they come around with various meats and cut it right off the rack and you pick it with the little tongs they provide.

I was in heaven with all the meat, Dan was not lololol But like a true ride or die he came along and kept me company while I ate to my heart’s content. He did love this pineapple and got it multiple times. I told him next year I will be going again so not to be surprised when we have to go back

Hi

-Dollar Tree also had some cute Valentine’s Day stuff

-Found these at Target and I know my youngest son’s preschool class will love these

-My middle son asked me to make all the girls in his class some bracelets to pass out for Valentine’s Day and I just love how excited he was to create the design for the bracelet while I actually made them. He is folding origami hearts and stars for them and since they both take awhile to make he assigned me bracelets while he makes his origami lol

-Super excited for Valentine’s Day and hope everyone found some good deals

Random Thoughts #12

-I sometimes feel bad I lack a lot of empathy for people. We all have a past and trauma that we are trying to move on from but I hate when people complain when they don’t try to get help themselves. While true, therapy isn’t for everyone and therapy can be expensive if you don’t look for affordable options but there are just so many resources available now. I wish younger Janet would have had these options instead of keeping everything inside before I exploded. I don’t take medication for my many disorders and awful past with pills, but with so much help available now it is slightly easier to handle my crazy

-Minnesota is so peaceful and calm and I never want to leave. Dan talks of a future in other places and countries and I guess as long as I have him with me and the kids close I will go anywhere. Yet, it truly feels like I am living in my good times now and these memories I am making now will be forever.

-I often go back and forth thinking if I should share all my stories with my kids because some are pretty terrible, but for now I keep it really PG and try to teach them to be smart and kind. My scary stories to them are really stories of my childhood and lessons I learned growing up. They love to hear those the most and we analyze these “scary stories” on what the main person could have done differently, what did we learn from this story, etc. They are fascinated by how many stories I always have for every scenario because to be honest I have been in many sticky situations lololol. Some truly terrifying, some lonely, some sad, and some heartbreaking, but again all lessons learned to pass down to my kids.

-I really despise nosy people. The ones that keep asking questions when they were ignored in the first place and don’t get the hint to just drop it. The ones that never read the room and think they have the right to know. When I am feeling cruel I like to add to their paranoia and just continue to ignore. Ignoring someone is one the meanest things you can do to someone besides lying to them in my opinion. But when you have enough you just get mentally blocked. And then it is worse when you can’t even mention to that person what they are doing wrong because they are also mentally unstable and don’t get help so they might explode or take offense to what you tell them in the wrong way when it is as simple if it wasn’t answered in the first place then don’t ask again. Although I do realize how awful this can be because ignoring someone is terrible but when you can’t even be blunt and tell them to drop it what else is left……

-my youngest doesn’t speak much but we both communicate with noises and looks. I know I should work on actually speaking with him (he goes to speech classes twice a week) and I do because he does know a lot and has great memory but I like this silent language of ours. I have a language with each of the kids but this one is my favorite. No words are needed when just a look says so much. He is really the sweetest in terms of affection out of my 3 and I love that he is my youngest to really treasure these moments. I love when I fall asleep on the couch and I wake up to him rubbing his nose on mine or him putting his eyelashes on my cheek. It is just so cute!

-I often feel like a terrible person for knowing how cruel I can be and never feeling any remorse. When I was younger when someone would hurt me I would hurt them right back, sometimes I would do it to see if I did have any feelings and just kept pushing them to go crazy. I never did, I even confessed to my therapist I thought I might be a psychopath for having lack of feelings and being able to hurt someone and not bat an eye. I didn’t really get enjoyment in hurting someone after the first couple of minutes of seeing them cry but I did like knowing how much weaker they could be than me. To set this straight again, I never hurt someone unless they hurt me first. I always left the innocent untouched, children, the elderly, and animals I never did anything to because in my eyes they are forever innocent and just need help if they are acting mean or bad. But the bad who wronged me would of course get it back and this was all according to my perception which could have been all wrong but I still confess my sins and sleep quite well at night.

-I fall more in love with Dan when I hear him listening to my Mexican music, all my Selena and mariachi band music. It seriously makes my heart flutter and he adds them to his work out playlist (swoon) and I can’t stop smiling. It is just the sweetest!!!

-I am in my Radiohead and Elliott Smith phase again and I can never get over how much I love them. I have seen Radiohead live 3 times and I hope to see them again with my oldest. Sadly, I only saw Elliot Smith once when he played at The Riviera before he died from 2 stab wounds that were never said to be self inflicted or not…..

-I have over 50 drafts in my account right now and debate hitting publish all or trash all

-There is this movie theatre in Chicago called the Music Box and I miss it all the time. Whenever I am back in town I drag one of my boys to go see a movie with me there. They play lots of oldies and it just holds such great memories for me. Whenever I felt lonely I would always go to the movies and enjoy myself laughing along with all the greats, Chaplin, Marx Brothers, foreign films, noir movies I never heard of, etc. Between this and the Gene Siskel theatre I spent countless hours between the 2 but the Music Box had this amazing Argentinian restaurant that was BYOB and I loved going there before or after a movie and enjoying a nice meal by myself. I feel nostalgic and almost like it was a first love, finding myself and enjoying my alone time with myself. I only ever brought 2 of the guys I ever dated to the Music Box and 1 to Gene Siskel so I never had memories of them it was only me. Dan is of course the one I brought to both but even then when we go I always find a new memory to share with him and how much fun they made going to the movies.

-Certain people get a song when I see the in my head. Like we are hanging out and I suddenly hear a tune in my head and the song is forever related to them. Some are good some bad, I laugh the most when a song my brother made up now becomes someone else’s in my head

-the other day I was at Mall of America to get my oldest son’s phone fixed because he like a fool dropped it and the screen cracked and the touch screen wasn’t working and I knew it was because the circuit board probably got messed up aka it was going to cost a lot to fix. I was fuming at the cost and mentally wanted to kill him but also I felt so grateful to be in a position where I could afford to cover the cost. It was going to take an hour to fix so I went to get Shake Shack while I waited and I couldn’t help but think of how crazy the cost was and if it were me in my younger days the amount would have covered at least 1.5 months of groceries for our family, a couple of utility bills, maybe some new shoes for the family. Ugh, I then started crying because I was mad but also feeling a huge sense of gratitude to be in a position to afford this repair. Anyways, as I was crying with my food in front of me, some guy asked to sit next to me because it was crowded and there were no tables and I said ok. He then starts talking about his wife and how excited he was to get her some jewelry for their first Christmas as a married couple. He even showed me the beautiful necklace, earring, and ring set he got her and just keeps me completely distracted from my thought process and when he finished eating his hot dog (I didn’t even know they sold that at Shake Shack) he left. I felt much better after listening to him talk and funny enough his name was Dan! I finished up my meal and it was time to head back and get the phone I stopped to think how I am so lucky I always have kind people wanting to help me. Even the Apple Store tried to find me the cheapest option to repair the phone and they ran so many numbers from trade in to just repair. Really it was very nice of them to do all that and then this stranger Dan distracted me and got me so excited to think of his wife’s reaction to the beautiful jewelry he bought for her. Like in general, I know I am extremely lucky that I always have people wanting to help me. It is crazy and I am left in awe at the kindness people show me. I know this isn’t always the case since my childhood was blah and even up until college I met terrible people, but there was always someone nice in the mix. Someone to always go out of their way to help me as much as they could and I never got that. I am of course very thankful and always return the favor to the universe in any way I can, but man, sometimes I just don’t know how I got so lucky to have random people look out for me.

-I love history, in general I love studying it and when I was little I loved learning every detail of it. Recently, my middle son has also expressed interest in the all the wars of the world. This of course got me instantly excited. We have started with American wars since it is a new country and might as well teach him his roots. I am also shocked Dan has had family here since the 1800s and we have found some have fought in the all the wars. Anyway, with his interest in history and war I of course tend to get overly excited and I always make us make a diorama of his most interested battle of said war. I wish I took pictures but when December 7th came up, we made a diorama of Pearl Harbour, we listened to FD Roosevelt’s speech on you tube and also spoke of the significance of that attack. I signed us up to volunteer to put up Christmas Wreaths on the soldiers gravesites here in our National Cemetery Fort Snelling this December and it was an experience. It was a very humbling experience and while I knew my oldest would understand the significance of it I wasn’t sure my 7 year old would but he did! He couldn’t stop reading the gravestones and seeing all the people that lost their lives during war. Both of them really enjoyed the experience and liked helping any way they could and have asked to come decorate again.

-I get annoyed when people say they wish they had my time. What they really should be saying is that they wish they had my time management skills. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, it is what you do with it that varies between you and me. At one point in my life I had 2 jobs, finishing up my masters, and thanks to my family I was able to raise a newborn, but I also was able to find me time. Friend time was rare but I managed to still be able to do some of my hobbies and again I prioritized and made time for what was important. My time management skills all stem from when I was younger, the minute I woke up I had to be smart how I would use my time, quickly eat before crazy brother woke up to hit me so I had to eat fast, gather my supplies and book bag for school, find a book and a hiding spot to read until my watch said it was time for school. Once I got home, I ironed my uniform for the next day, hung it up, worked on all of my homework since no brothers were home, showered, quickly ate, and then depending on my brothers’ schedules really depended on what I did. Some days I stayed in a hiding spot, some I was able to watch tv, when my oldest brother was home I was able to sing and paint and talk a lot with him. We all hid when my dad was home but he had an erratic schedule so we had to improvise a lot with him so to say you wish you had my time is slightly offensive. Maybe, a time management class would benefit you.

Dan always approaches me when he feels overwhelmed because he knows I can get it all done and break his tasks down easily. In reality the long list of anything is really under 10 things but when you say it all together I get it can feel like a lot so I break it down and bam we set out to get it all done. I never think that there is too much to do in a day, I know a lot of my ability to do things is my mental disorders and in reality not a lot of people are like me which is fine but I also sacrifice my sleep to get everything I want to do get done. My dad used to say sleep is for the dead and I get that more with age, I like my family time, my friend time, my Dan time but to get those 3 done I don’t always get me time or sleep. Planning isn’t for everyone and if you don’t plan or at least make a mental list of things to do you are setting yourself up to fail. Anyways, that is my rant for the day. Efficiency is key but don’t sacrifice for sloppy and half ass work.

-I often think of my dad and his many sayings, most were out there but a couple stuck true to me. One of my favorites was always to go out with shoes you can run in. Of course, being a teenager and in my early twenties I just wanted to wear heels and be cute, but I can’t tell you how many times I have had to run away from crazies and the police LOLOLOLOOL. I often think how did I get myself in this situation but too late for that when you are running. To this day as much as some heels would totally make an outfit, I am almost always wearing flats or gym shoes. I just have to be prepared for anything and I only exclusively wear shoes that I can tolerate for hours. My shoe choices aren’t always the wisest or safest but if I am comfortable in them and can run at least a mile in them I am fine.

-Being the youngest or maybe just being the only girl in the family I was always the designated translator for my parents. It was annoying at times since they didn’t speak English but my mom did understand it and my dad a little. Anyway, I hated being dragged to the bank, to pay bills, to the car dealership to buy a new car, to the doctor appts, just everything I always had to go to and I would resent my brothers for not being the ones to go instead. I did learn a lot though and I was great at haggling especially at car dealerships, when I would go with just my dad I wouldn’t haggle too much since I made deals depending how he treated us and he rarely treated us nice so there went how much he paid. He never spent money on us so I never felt bad having him pay top dollar since I would rather it go to the car than who knows where, now for my mom, I always brought my math little notebook that had all my notes on commercials I watched and various interest rates being offered. I would go as far as to bring a little calculator and do the math on the spot and then haggle for cheaper. My mom would have to pay for her own bills and I always tried to get her the best deal.

This rings true to this day when she wanted to buy something and she went with my brother and had to pay some ridiculous amount and on my recent trip to Chicago I went instead and got her an amazing deal. I don’t know what it is about my brothers but they never were good at getting deals, I have no shame especially when it comes to my mom because in my head I still always want to get her the best deal especially against big companies. I still remember being on the phone once crying and begging the gas company to not turn off our heat and having them listen to my actual sob story and thank goodness they left it on the whole winter. We all chipped in to help pay for bills but some months were just harder than others and I was always on the phone begging for an extension from some utility company.

-My middle son said something quite profound recently, he said he was bored with the kids in his class and when he looks at them he sees them but feels nothing with them or for them. He is hanging out playing football with them but in reality he would rather just have a conversation with someone or draw. I didn’t articulate this thought process until college and realized that I would be sitting with “friends” but felt nothing for them because we had no substance. My middle was so cute and said he has more fun with his brothers since he can teach his younger brother lots of things and his big brother teaches him everything and talks to him about life. My oldest son happen to overhear and said that moving forward everyone will always be boring compared to him and me since we are the most fun lolol. My middle went on to agree and said yeah, you guys are magnets and are always so smiley and everyone wants to be by you but you both give me the most attention and it feels like the sun shines on me and I like that a lot ❤ Ahhhh so cute! This is all too funny since out of my 3 kids he is the one that gets asked for playdates the most and gets invited to all the parties. He is the popular one amongst us and we are just his cheerleading squad

-There is a boy in my son’s basketball team that reminds me so much of me. He looks just like my youngest, same skin color, same haircut, same puppy dog eyes and my heart just breaks for him. His parents aren’t around and he tends to be very defensive and even calls my son names but I tell my son to let it go since I have explained to him why he acts this way. I know it must eat at this little boy that Dan is the coach and all of us are always around my son and we all take turns to show up and cheer for him. I was in the same boat, always so jealous of seeing parent’s cheer for their kids and having no one there for me. And worse, one of his grown ups is so mean to him and it takes everything in me to not get in this person’s face and give him a piece of my mind and if it comes down to it worse, but I know if I say anything much like my parents I would just make it worse for this boy at home so I keep quiet and seethe with anger. I have told my oldest son to cheer for this boy and we now bring him water and I make sure to ask him random questions, nothing personal since we don’t like talking about home life but just fun light things. I have come to find out this little boy is so sweet and so bright, speaks 3 languages and has even better dribbling skills than my son and a lot of the other kids. I compliment him like I do with own son but also tell him what I noticed and what he might improve in just like my son. It has been really nice but with the season ending I am so worried about him because what is going to be his next outlet once this ends. I hope we don’t lose him. I know I worry too much for things I am not in control of but this little boy has so much potential and I hate thinking that he might go astray. He misses a lot of school and in my head I worry it is because he is getting abused but that is far fetched right, ugh. My son doesn’t want play dates with him because he is mean at times and I can’t really explain why in detail he acts this way because telling him he doesn’t have the best home life but I just feel so bad for this kid. I wish I could talk to this little boy and be like I was you, we are the same, no need to be jealous or hate, we have ourselves and that’s all we need. We will make it, we will be stronger because of this experience but again how do I even approach this, I stay awake at night thinking about this and I hope to find some solution before the season ends.

-I grew up in a a very competitive environment. My brothers and I were always competing who was the best kid in our parent’s eyes and we would sell each other out in a second just to see the other person get in trouble. No secret or lie was ever safe and it was constant civil war in our house. You had to always watch what you said, how you acted, and how you felt. True feelings must never be revealed and only being #1 mattered.

This goes in hand with how I am now. I am the least competitive person out of anyone I know and I don’t mind losing. I am a terrible team mate and always want to be picked last in any game and don’t try to win. I am lucky to have natural talent and skill and if I really try I know I can beat some people in things, but I hate when I play against really competitive people because they get so mad and I just think of my brothers and knowing if I was better than them I would get hit so I let most people always beat me. I am thankful Dan is also like me and not competitive at all, we don’t mind losing and he takes it with great grace so he is always my favorite partner. I have to really not like you to want to win because not even prizes or money sway me but make me not like you and you will go down lolol

-I never wanted kids or to get married and yet here they have brought me the greatest joy I never imagined possible. I love hanging out with my oldest at night while he plays video games we talk and listen to music, I love hanging out with my middle son and learning so many random facts about everything that I am left feeling dumb, I love the constant affection I get from my youngest son and love of building train tracks and playing with trains all day. It just blows my mind that I never thought I would like being a parent or like having to sacrifice parts of me but it is worth it, it is all worth it.

Christmas Gifts

I always find it fascinating what my family gets me because there is always a great variety

-The only gift I asked for this Christmas was this LL Bean Sweater because I didn’t have any in this style and while the lighting stinks at my house it is a pretty pale pink that I love so much. Dan came through and got me the exact one I wanted and it is so warm! In reality, LL Bean is my very favorite clothing brand and I slowly aim to buy every article of clothing from their store for myself one day.

-I joked with my oldest son this sweatsuit would look amazing in my closet for me to wear on days I need color when we were shopping at the stores and he must have told Dan because boom it is was under the Christmas Tree for me!

-Thank goodness for having a son like my oldest because he knows exactly what I need when I don’t even know. I love Andy Warhol and most importantly the Velvet Underground band. He got me a new tote with their album cover on it that was designed by Andy Warhol with some of my favorite painting pins. It was so thoughtful! He knows I don’t like leather and love bags that I can wash over and over again so he saw I needed a new bag and got me one ❤

-And AHHHHH he got me the vinyl of my favorite album to play on my new record player. It has been a daily listen and I absolutely love that he got it for me since I always talk about this album and how much I love it

-My middle and youngest (and I think Dan) got me the very Lego I have been asking for months thinking I wouldn’t get it but I did!!!! AHHHHH, we have been having fun building it while listening to BTS and V’s Layover album

-Dan knows I love flats and gym shoes so he got me these for our upcoming Europe trip. These having a little height with their platform so I am not sure how I feel about them since I don’t wear platform shoes normally but they are pink and cute so I will be breaking them in soon

-These were from all the boys, new tennis shoes! I don’t really play tennis often so it made me laugh they got me these but according to them I needed new shoes to play against my oldest and middle son and also to play pickleball with my oldest. He got new paddles for Christmas so he is super excited to teach me how to play once the courts here open up.

-I love this style hat and was so happy when I saw Dan got me a new Yankees hat in the color I forgot I wanted and a new LA hat with the cute pink lettering! So sweet and thoughtful since I am already counting the days down until baseball season starts again

-Last year Dan got me cute all black shoes with a strip of leopard on them and this year he got me these fun new walking shoes! I absolutely love these and when I opened them up I screamed and immediately put them on to break in. They are super comfy and I love love love love the design!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and got something they loved. I was very spoiled with everything and cannot wait to use all of my new stuff

December 2023

A brief picture summary of some of the things I did this past month

-Polar Express train ride at the Union Depot in St Paul. My youngest loves loves loves loves trains and even though the cost was ridiculous to ride this train it was in retrospect worth it. Him and my middle son absolutely loved it and the memories me and Dan made with them will last forever

Here is my middle son super excited while waiting to board

-My oldest had a volunteer event he didn’t want to miss so sadly he missed out being with us but he also said he felt too old to go anyway 😦

-I always bring paper, crayons, and stickers and happy we did, the ride itself is only 45 min but for my 3 year old especially it felt like hours

-Finally Santa came to hello

-Enjoying hot cocoa

-Love how much my kids love face painting and both my middle son and youngest got this snowflake

-The Grinch is always lurking and happy my middle son wanted a picture with him, my youngest was terrified

-We then went to the European Market that is right there and rode another train ride that was free.

-So cute

-A cookies with Santa event. We had to take the boys at separate times since my middle son had a birthday party to go to

-My little Scottie being in awe of Santa lol

-My middle son didn’t get a chance to decorate cookies but he did at home later. Scottie and Dan had a great time decorating though and ate all the cookies while there

-Dan has a tradition he takes our middle son to watch the Polar Express at the local theatre that hosts a party for it every year. Hopefully, our youngest will be able to sit still so he can join in on the tradition next year

-Shopping and drinking at the mall with friends

-I always love Nordstrom Grille for lunch, it feels like a nice secluded and intimate spot to eat

-This Santa was really nice to the boys

-They also had a free balloon making station and of course they wanted one

-Dan took me to the European Market again LOLOLOLOL. He knows I love going multiple times to really enjoy an experience. -Love raclette!

-This Egg Nog was so good

-Apple Streusel was so tasty and Dan’s favorite

-I always love buying these cinnamon sugar nuts

I ate 2 of my favorite strawberry frosted and think often of their perfect frosting they do on their donuts.
